Christian Racing Driver Bio

It is an honor and a pleasure to be featured as CRL’s Driver of the Week. I feel like I know you all after racing with you for the last few months, and I am so appreciative of the efforts all drivers have made to welcome me into your league.

Growing up in Richmond, Indiana, the influence of my father left me no choice but to become a NASCAR fan. I have vivid memories of my first race trip to Michigan to celebrate my fifth birthday, when Janet Guthrie’s car roared by me, scaring me to death. When I was seven, I jumped out of a tree, convincing myself that being that brave was the only way I would ever become a racecar driver. I broke my arm, but the dream never came true. Since then, I have traveled to races in Atlanta, Bristol, Talladega, Darlington, Phoenix, Indianapolis, Charlotte and Pocono.

I played baseball at Anderson University (and two days in the Frontier League) while I earned my degree in Psychology and Secondary Education. I taught high school Social Studies and coached varsity baseball for three years before making a permanent switch to being a director for Sylvan Learning Center. I have been with Sylvan since 2001. In 2003, I hired a part-time teacher, Abby, who eventually became my wife. Now, Abby and I are Sylvan directors together in Springfield, Illinois. As I like to say, I’m the boss at work and she’s the boss at home. Our little boy, Rylan, came into our lives in November, 2006, and he keeps us on our toes all day. In addition to being a racing enthusiast, I am also a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

I began Sim Racing in 2002, but I did not race online until the fall of 2007. A fellow driver in WORL introduced me to CRL, so I currently drive in both leagues. I am a Casey Mears fan, therefore my teams and paint schemes change frequently. Thanks again to all of you for making me feel so welcome.

See You At The Track
Rick
