The 2017 NASCAR Cup season is upon us. The format is basically the same as last season with a few tweaks.
- Points: The winner will get 40 points, and 2nd will get 38 and decrease by 1 from there. If we have more than 39 cars each person will get 1 point from there.
- Bonus Points: 1 bonus point for leading a lap and 1 bonus point for leading the most laps.
- Provisionals: Provisionals will be allowed for the regular season only. After the chase begins no provisionals will be given. Provisionals must be asked for on the forum under the provisional section. You have until the start of the next series race to ask for a provisional and it will be 1 point less than last place. Provisionals do not count toward your participation.
- Chase eligibility: To be eligible for the chase you must compete in at least 16 of the first 26 races. Compete means turn at least one lap not just showing up in the server. Provisionals do not count toward participation.
- Rain outs: At times there are server issues or iRacing is down, and we feel enough members are having issues the race will be rained out and no points will be counted. A determination will be made if the race will be made up or not but the Cup schedule is pretty full so it will probably not be made up. If too many rain outs happen the participation of 16 races might be adjusted to account for that but that will be up to the Admins.
- Chase rules: At the start of the chase the 16 drivers that are eligible points will be reset. Once a driver falls out of the chase his points will go back to the original points. This will leave everyone fighting for 5th place. The top 4 will be locked into the final race. A win locks you into the chase as long as you meet the participation requirements and assuming we don’t have 16 different winners. If that were to happen it would be by wins and then points. Tie breakers would go to top 5’s and then top 10’s. Once a driver is in the chase a win automatically advances you to the next round.
